IMO FAO/ILO/IMO Voluntary Guidelines for the Design, Construction and Equipment of Small Fishing Vessels, 2005 2nd Edition 2006 IA761E
The purpose of the Voluntary Guidelines is to provide an updated, general guidance on safe practices for the design, construction and equipment of smaller fishing vessels with a view to promoting the safety of the vessel and safety and health of the crew.
They are not intended as a substitute for national laws and regulations but may serve as a guide to those concerned with framing such national laws and regulations.
Unless otherwise stated, the provisions of these guidelines are intended to apply to new decked fishing vessels of 12 meters in length and over, but less than 24 meters in length.
The three organizations noted below came together to draft the Code of Safety for Fishermen and Fishing Vessels, 2005 (2006 Edition) that applies to fishing vessels 24 meters in length and over. It was recommended that they continue to cooperate to establish voluntary guidelines for smaller fishing vessels. - FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
