Maritime Progress Water Ballast Record Book 1204Y
The IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), at its fifty-first session in April 2004 set out to mitigate the effects of invasive aquatic species that present a major threat to the marine ecosystems. Shipping was identified as a major contributor for introducing alien species to new environments. The introduction of alien species into new environments has been devastating in many areas of the world. The IMO introduced a set of measures within the Ballast Water Convention which are now coming into force. As of September 2017, vessels will have to carry a Ballast Water Record book to record all ballast water exchange, discharge and loading operations. With the Maritime Progress Ballast Water Record Book, vessels will be able to conform to these new regulations. |
