Marlow FAA007 Sail Makers Needles Set by W. Smith & Son

The No 103 packet of 5 best-cast steel needles is made by hand and forged in England by the Wm. Smith & Son Co. Redditch, England.

They are made from high carbon heat-treated steel with a highly polished finish, reduced edges, triangular points and long eyes for easy threading.

Needles are Size 13 British Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) to 19 SWG reduced edge No. 209 Sailmakers Needles. (Needle size increases as the number decreases.)

The 16 SWG needle is good for most work, but you may want to use a larger needle for corner stitching on large sails and smaller needles for seam work on smaller sails.

There are no hard and fast rules, simply use the needle that yields the smallest hole without undue trouble.
